Questions from Workshop 2

I may have just simply missed some of the answers...

  • Could we have the 'secret' number to post to blogs using text messages from mobile phones?

  • How do we set up our bloggs to be notified of others positing?

  • Is there any freeware that can be used to reduce the size of images?

  • Would it be possible to have the power points from the workshops posted for reference?

  • What is the minimum hardware that you would need to be able to used all these cool new toys at home?

Thats all my questions from today...thanx again!

This is all making alot more sense and very very exciting!!

June 26th Session

Hello everyone

I can’t believe how quick time flies by up here in the Top End. Next week Tuesday the 26th is our second e-learning workshop for all of you in the hospitality sector. We will be in the same location – Australian Technical College 9-3:30 pm. Also, please mark August 10th (Friday) as the date for the 3rd and final session. For next week, I just got back from a shopping spree with Marcia and we have some fun toys to play with on Tuesday – MP3 recorders!

Our Plan for the Day is as follows:

More Digital Story Telling (DST). Follow-up with DST Assignments – see how you made out, where you are at, any application of digital story telling since our last session. Try and bring in your digital stories or at least your photos related to your assignment (or any other fun stories you may have created J). It’s OK if you’ve been swamped and full-on busy, but hopefully we will have advanced some of our previous learning.

Blogger 101 – Review and re-visit how Blogger works, creating posts, uploading text and photos and setting it up for podcasting. Please make sure you have received and accepted the invite from Marcia to add posts to the trainingforchange.blogspot.com site.

Audio-Casting – Review the article on audio-casting, think about the use of audio in education and specifically in your hospitality sector. Practice recording using the new MP3 recorders and getting audio into your computers.

Lunch

Principles of Digital Recording - What is digital audio? Understanding audio formats and file sizes, getting the best audio signal that you can.

Editing Audio – using Audacity to edit your digital audio. Cutting, pasting, re-arranging, recording narration / commentaries etc. Saving as MP3 files for podcasting.

Uploading Podcasts / videocasts – using media servers, e.g., Hipcast, downloading versus streaming podcasts, subscribing to podcasts, RSS. Linking your podcasts/videocasts to your Blogger posts.

If you cannot make a session – please feel free to recommend a colleague to come along “in proxy” for you!

Looking forward to another fun-filled day of e-learning geekery with all of you.

Cheers

Bill

Testimonials - June 5th Session

Thankyou for the invite, the workshop was great for me.
I even managed to get Stephen creating digital storytelling as evidence for his students who had played a huge role in being part of the Arafura Games. Luckily, he had captured all these great photos of his students as evidence and now with my help has captured this through digital story telling and it looks great. I am on a roll.

Until we speak again, regards Tonia

Training for Change

The “Training for Change” Project will bring together RTO Trainers and Assessors who deliver Hospitality training, to gain professional development in how e-learning can improve services to clients, and assist in alleviating skills shortages in the Hospitality industry.

The Hospitality industry is in a crisis. There is currently a 73% drop out rate of apprentice chefs in the Northern Territory and an extreme skills shortage in the industry nationally.
In 2006, the “Cyber Chef” Learnscope project unearthed an industry interest in e-learning, which has not previously been utilised by the hospitality industry. This project aims to nurture and grow that interest.

The industry position is dictating a need for more innovative and flexible options for training and development of this target group, and providing professional development for the RTO’s involved will ensure better engagement of e-learning and improved service delivery to industry.

The targeted professional development for RTO’s will include;

· Professional development in use of toolboxes
· Innovative uses of e-learning for evidence gathering eg; digital stories
· Developing e-learning portfolios
· Development of online skills recognition tools

This project supports the ongoing priorities for CHARTTES Training Advisory Council in assisting collaboration between industry and RTO’s and increasing industry training and development. Support of management in all stages of the process will be imperative to the success of the project.
Management of RTO’s have given provision of time to all participants and understand the benefits of involvement. By having adequate time allocated for learning and development will ensure project goals are realistic and achievable, and will nurture a strong network which will continue after project completion.

The intended outcomes of the project will be:

· Increase engagement of RTO’s and industry in e-learning
· Improved delivery and student outcomes for apprentice chefs
· Increased knowledge of RPL tools to enhance industry skills recognition
· Increased understanding of skills sets to support industry needs
· Shared online tools and resources developed by the project team
